Here’s My Story

Why I Decided To Start An Airbnb…

A lot of the people that get into Airbnb don’t come from wealth…myself included.

Growing up we never had money…

My single mother of four never made more than $20,000 a year. There was always endless love and support in the house, just not that much money.

We lived in a small 2-bedroom house and I shared a room with three of my siblings until I was age 14

I remember the nights when the electricity would shut off and we had to bundle up and blankets to stay warm. Or when we would have to boil hot water so we would have hot water to take a bath that night.

I also remember feeling embarrassed because I had to wear hand-me-down clothes to school that were way too baggy on me.

I’d watch all growing up as my mom would whisper to the grocery store clerk at checkout “this is my food stamps card.” Careful not to let the person behind us in the checkout line hear.

You see, growing up in poverty drove me in my early twenties to work harder and pursue greater things in my life financially…

So shortly after school I found myself working full-time at a job and making pretty good money, $52,400/year. Which at the time was the most money I’d ever seen.

I thought I was winning until I discovered that…

In exchange for this comfortable salary, I was working 72 hours a week and felt so overwhelmed and trapped.

One of the worst trades you can make is your time for money…

But how could I continue to grow financially and not work 72 hours a week? Or even 40 hours a week?
